The article describes the work of the Daughters of the Confederacy to develop Winnie Davis Memorial Hall, named for the daughter of Confederate President
Jefferson Davis who had recently died. The cornerstone for the building (which still exists) was laid at the State Normal School (now UGA’s Medical and Public
Health campus). The Normal School trained Georgia’s teachers. Winnie Davis Hall provided free housing and Lost Cause lessons for white young women who were becoming teachers. Mrs. Hull, listed among the officers, was the wife of a UGA Professor, daughter of a Confederate General, and daughter-in-law of a President of the Athens Manufacturing Company.
