Phelps – Stokes Rural Survey of Clarke County (1915)
In 1915, UGA published the Phelps - Stokes Rural Survey of Clarke County. The first page spread included here lists the numerous membership organizations among Black people in Clarke County, and begins describing the Corn Club, which was also established by Judia Harris. The second page spread continues the discussion of the Corn Club, which was an extremely successful cooperative venture that promoted land ownership in the Black community. The second page also shows that over 40% of Black heads of households in Clarke County were sharecroppers. Finally, the third piece describes the Model and Training School in 1915.
