Complex Cloth is a research, teaching, and service project.

Complex Cloth began as a research project, exploring the history of the Athens Factory, its relationship to UGA, and its role in the emergence of social welfare services in Athens.

It expanded into a teaching project, encouraging UGA Social Work students to explore how local social work practices evolved and how local histories and past practices influence our social work norms in the present.

And it has become a community service project, working to make these histories available to local teachers, students, and citizens who can learn from and be inspired by them.
